Costa Calida is one of the unspoilt lesser known areas of Spain.
Costa Calida lies just south of the Costa Blanca with its most well known area being the Mar Menor. This is a saltwater lake separated from the sea by a narrow stretch of land known as La Manga.

The Mar Menor has many therapeutic qualities with one of the best known mud baths at Lo Pagán to the extreme north of the lagoon and the salt flats at La Manga. You can of course have a salt bath anywhere in the Mar Menor.
Other resorts worth mentioning and definitely worth a visit are San Pedro del Pinatar to the extreme north of the Costa Calida. Its character partly being agricultural and part fishing area. It also has salt flats which form the most important wetlands in the region. Every year flocks of Flamingos shelter here.
Los Alcazares is an old fishing village with seven kilometres of beach and overlooking the Mar Menor. The Mar Menor continues with the municipal area of Cartagena including Los Nietos, Mar de Crystal and Playa Honda.
La Manga, Costa Calida ...
Closing the bay to the south we find Cabo de Palos, white and sleepy, situated on the volcanic backbone that gives life to the famous cape on the Murcian coast. La Manga is a narrow wedge of land measuring about 21km. On the La Manga you have a choice of two seas, with different water temperatures, different salinity, one with waves and one practically calm all year round.
Cartagena itself is one of the oldest cities in Spain and is a cultural and historic reference point.
To the extreme south of the region is Mazzaron. Inland of course is the capital town Murcia which overlooks a vast plain towards the sea.
